STEP 1. EXFOLIATE
Making sure your lips are smooth and crack free is essential for the perfect application. We all know the pain of seeing our beautiful lip color flake off throughout the night. Two of my favorites are the e.l.f. Cosmetics Lip Exfoliator (only $3!) and The Lip Scrub by Sara Happ .
STEP 2. HYDRATE
Next step is moisturizing! Long-lasting lip colors are often extremely drying, so this step will act as a barrier. I personally go back and forth between good ol’ Aquaphor and the Dr. Lipp Miracle Balm.
STEP 3. APPLY
To prime, I lightly dab foundation over my lips with a damp beauty blender. This acts as a primer and something for the liquid lipstick to rest on top of. Next, gently line your lips using tiny strokes and then fill in only the outer corners. This creates dimension, therefore creating the illusion of bigger lips.
Next up is the start of the show. Your lip stick or liquid lipstick. For special occasions, such as Fourth of July or holiday festivities, I highly recommend a liquid formula that drys matte. This will help ensure that your lip color lasts all night. My personal favorite are the Anastasia of Beverly Hills liquid lipsticks and the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick.
Now, when using a liquid lipstick formula I always recommend using a lip brush. This gives you control of how much product you are applying and makes the application process much easier. I learned this the hard way! The M.A.C 316 is my go-to!
Take a kleenex and peal apart the layers of tissue so that you have two sheets versus one. Next, take one of the sheets and place it directly over your lips. Finally, gently dust a translucent setting powder over the tissue. This trick will guarantee a smudge proof pout that will last all night!
